The word YOGA means to Yoke or Join and the word HATHA literally means Sun/Moon or Balance. The practice of Hatha Yoga (balanced joining) is a physical practice and is the joining of breath with movement to balance to body, mind and spirit. When well-aligned movement is connected to complete breath we are able to quiet our mind, heal our body and create peace and wholeness in our being.
Whether you are drawn to yoga for its physical benefits, to relieve stress or calm the mind, you will benefit in countless ways and find that the practice of hatha yoga is truly transformative! This is true regardless of what type of yoga or how many days a week you practice although you will find the more that you practice the deeper and more profound the changes in your physical and emotional being you will experience! Here are just a few of the many benefits that yoga can bring to your life:
- Brings balance and harmony to the body, mind and spirit
- Improved posture, flexibility and energy
- Calms the mind
- Strengthens and tones muscles
- Increases circulation; slows heart rate; lowers blood pressure
- Can help reduce weight, stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia
As a new student, start with a Level 1 class (most beginning classes are combined levels 1 and 2). Choose a time that is convenient for you and make yoga a regular part of your life! All of our instructors here at Namaste have formal training and a comprehensive knowledge of yoga; though teaching styles vary just as personalities do. We encourage you to experience a variety of classes and teachers to find the one that best suits you. Come try our new student special of 3 classes for $30 (good for 30 days) and make a commitment to yourself to come three times – as once is not enough!
Generally, Hatha and Hatha Flow classes are best for beginners. However, if you are active and looking for a bit of a challenge, try one of our Vinyasa or Flow classes.
Another option is to sign up for one of our Introduction to Yoga workshops – a 2-hour introductory class which is held every other month. Check our Events page for the next scheduled workshop and call to reserve your spot now!
